Sept. 28 City Commission meeting

There will be a City Commission meeting Monday, Sept. 28, at 3:30 p.m. in City Hall Commission Chambers located at 401 S. Park Ave. For the most up-to-date agenda, please visit cityofwinterpark.org under What’s New. Below are a few topics of interest:

Mayor’s Report

Consent Agenda

• Approve the minutes for Sept. 14, 2015.

• Approve various contracts and formal solicitations (for a complete list, please visit cityofwinterpark.org/ccpackets).

• Approve the budget amendment for the Public Works and Building & Permitting departments for the Cady Way Cycle Track improvements and the building Interactive Voice Response software.

• Authorize the city manager, in consultation with the city attorney, as needed, to sign purchase orders for payment of HIDTA personnel and operations, subject to the condition that the HIDTA grant funds will be the sole source of money to pay these obligations. Additionally, authorize purchase orders for several independent contractors who provide specialized and confidential investigative services on behalf of HIDTA, and a purchase order for facility expenses of HIDTA.

• Authorize the mayor to execute the Florida Power & Light Company Native Load Firm and System Firm Partial Requirements Power and Energy Transaction Confirmation.

• Authorize the mayor to sign a lease agreement between the city of Winter Park and Winter Park Benefit Shop.

• Approve the Watermain Construction Agreement – cost-sharing agreement between the city and UP Fieldgate US Investments – Winter Park, LLC.

Public Hearings

• Request of Ferna Bernstein for the annexed property at 1566 W. Fairbanks Ave.:

— Second reading of the ordinance amending the Comprehensive Plan Future Land Use Map to establish a Commercial Future Land Use Designation.

— Second reading of the ordinance amending the official zoning map to establish Commercial District zoning.

• Subdivision or lot split approval to divide the vacant property at 1004 N. Pennsylvania Ave. into four, single-family building lots.

• Request of Phil Kean Designs Inc. for the property at 652 W. Morse Blvd.:

— First reading of the ordinance to change the Future Land Use Map Designation of Commercial to Central Business District.

— First reading of the ordinance to change the existing zoning designation of Office District to Commercial District.

— Conditional Use approval to redevelop the property into 11 residential units that are two- and three-story in height with a total project size of 40,566 square feet.

• Request of Sydgan Corporation:

— First reading of the ordinance vacating and abandoning the 5-foot utility easement located on Block “G” of the Home Acres Subdivision and the 1999 Florida Power Corporation distribution easement.

Budget Public Hearings (must be held after 5 p.m.)

• Second reading of the ordinance adopting the millage rate.

• Second reading of the ordinance adopting the Fiscal Year 2016 annual budget.

Household hazardous waste disposal

On Saturday, Sept. 26, from 8 a.m. to noon the city in partnership with Waste Pro for household hazardous waste and A1 Assets Inc. for e-waste, will be offering waste disposal for all city residents at the Public Works Compound located at 1409 Howell Branch Road. No contractors please.

The following items will be accepted: fertilizers and pesticides, antifreeze, propane tanks, paint thinners, wet latex paint (dry latex paint is not hazardous waste and can go in trash), oil based paint (can be wet or dry), non-alkaline batteries (regular alkaline batteries can go in trash), gasoline, used engine oil, pool chemicals, household chemicals, tires (maximum of four), used motor oil, e-waste (computers, televisions, VCRs, DVD players, FAX machines, CD players and stereos).

Join Commissioner Carolyn Cooper at CoffeeTalk

This year marks the 10th anniversary of CoffeeTalk where the community can talk one-on-one with city leaders. On Wednesday, Sept. 30, citizens can join Commissioner Carolyn Cooper for her CoffeeTalk at 8 a.m. at the Winter Park Welcome Center located at 151 W. Lyman Ave. Make plans to join Commissioner Cooper for a cup of conversation and great coffee provided by Barnie’s Coffee Kitchen. For more information, please call 407-599-3428.

Test the Waters Fishing Tournament

The Parks & Recreation Department of the city of Winter Park and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will present their annual Test the Waters Fishing Tournament, Saturday, Oct. 3, from 7 to 10 a.m. at Martin Luther King Jr. Park located at 455 S. Denning Drive. Children of all ages are invited to participate in this fun-filled event. Bait, fishing poles and snacks will be provided for all participants. The city’s Parks & Recreation Department also guarantees that everyone will take home a fish! For more information regarding the fishing tournament, please call 407-599-3463.
