Funding for Park Avenue improvements

Earlier this summer, the city’s Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) approved funding of $70,000 for Park Avenue upgrades and maintenance to landscaping, streetscaping and street furniture. On July 6, the city’s Public Works and Parks & Recreation departments began construction at New England Avenue, heading north on the west side of Park Avenue.

The renovation process will include immediate improvements such as rebuilding the brick planters, replacing landscaping as needed, updating and increasing trash receptacles, and replacing dumpsters with trash compactors along both Garfield and Welbourne avenues. This façade improvement will also include any necessary curbing, sidewalk repairs, and additional sidewalk cleaning.

The first phase of the process is the removal of sections of the planter walls that need to be repaired or replaced. The Parks & Recreation Department will address tree, plants and irrigation concerns. Future phases will include repairs to sections of planter walls near Morse Boulevard and Lincoln Avenue, as well as increasing the frequency of sidewalk pressure washing from bi-annual to quarterly. For details regarding these CRA upgrades, please contact 407-599-3665 or [email protected].
