“Click It or Ticket” returns

The Winter Park Police Department (WPPD) will be joining NHTSA and law enforcement agencies all across the nation for the 2015 Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement wave. Stepped-up law enforcement activities will be conducted from Monday, May 18, through Sunday, May 31. Local law enforcement officers will be on the lookout for those not wearing their seat belts or transporting unrestrained children.

In 2013, nearly 59 percent of passenger vehicle occupants killed at night (6 p.m. to 5:59 a.m.) were not wearing their seat belts. In 2013, there were 638 children 12 years of age and younger killed in vehicle crashes. Of those fatalities, more than 38 percent were unrestrained. Your child seat can be installed by certified WPPD personnel by appointment. This is a service that the department has been providing for years at no cost to the public.

WPPD encourages everyone to wear their seatbelts and use proper child safety equipment at all times, but is asking drivers to have a heightened sense of awareness during the busy summer travel season. The agency is encouraging compliance in lieu of having to issue citations as costly reminders of a law that everyone should be following every time they are in a vehicle.
