Winter Park conquers Boone

Winter Park wins third straight

A trio of big runs added up to the difference in a hard-fought Wildcats gridiron win over Boone Friday, Sept. 17. Winter Park and Boone were in a back-and-forth struggle for most of the game as Boone continually scored first, but always found Winter Park had an answer.

Early on, it was looking like the Braves were going to take the game easily, as they scored quickly in the first half, but the Wildcats fought back, picking up a touchdown of their own. An ensuing Boone field goal was met by a Wildcat field goal in kind, and that tit-for-tat would continue until the second half.

At that point, quarterback Sam Richardson took matters into his own hands, racing downfield for a 7-yard score. Later in the game, he would put the final nail in the Braves’ coffin with a 55-yard scamper into the end zone.

Also helping out on the ground, Brandon Brown-Dukes raced 37 yards for a score of his own.

With the 31-17 win, the Wildcats (3-0) dealt Boone its third loss of the season, the first time the Braves have had such a bad start in more than two decades.

After taking a game off this Friday, the Wildcats will return to the field hosting Cypress Creek at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 1.

The Eagles just landed their biggest upset of the season against Apopka, winning in a 14-13 nail-biter that came down to an extra point.

Apopka had been one of the highest-ranked teams in Central Florida, but they couldn’t find a way through the Eagles’ defense. Coming off a tough 0-2 start, the Eagles were looking for a win.

Young Edgewater quarterback J.B. Woodman picked up just enough scores to take the win.

On Friday, the Eagles (1-2) travel all the way to St. Cloud for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. The Bulldogs (2-1) are coming off a 21-13 loss to Key West.
