A suspect connected to a recent Winter Park homicide was arrested last Thursday by Winter Park Police.

At 9:15 a.m. last Thursday police arrested suspect Darius Deshon Wright, who has been charged with first degree murder in connection with the death of Trevius Donte Roberts, who was shot and killed while standing outside an apartment in The Meadows along Margaret Square on April 25.

The incident was the second shooting in two days in Winter Park. Officers responded to a call the day before at 2:40 a.m. regarding a robbery and shots fired in a residence on the 600 block of West Swoope Avenue. Gunfire was exchanged between a suspect and a victim, who were both rushed to the hospital after sustaining non-life threatening injuries. No suspects or details have been revealed in the incident.

“Unfortunately violence can happen anywhere at any time,” Lt. Pam Marcum of the Winter Park Police Department told the Observer last month. “Hopefully it’s two isolated incidents and hopefully this type of activity isn’t going to continue in any of our surrounding communities as well as our own community.”

Winter Park City Commissioner Carolyn Cooper applauded the Winter Park Police Department for the recent arrest during Monday’s City Commission meeting.

“I wanted to recognize the police department and just let you know how much the community, especially the Lake Bell area folks, are very appreciative that you made the arrest for the homicide,” Cooper said.

“We have a great police force. I know you do those things every day, but we get calls. People feel safer.”
