It took overtime to make it happen, but Winter Park’s undefeated streak on the gridiron came to an end last Friday, with rival Boone taking the win 16-13.

Boone was behind Winter Park by 3 points in OT and driving toward the goal line when Boone QB Logan Smith found Alex Bergan in the corner of the end zone for the score that would win the game.

For the Wildcats, who had been flying high on a string of four straight wins, three of which came by less than a touchdown, the sting of a first loss turns their record to 4-1. For the formerly struggling Braves, they’re now 2-3.

Winter Park gets to play host to Timber Creek at 7:30 p.m. Friday. It’ll be their second district game and the Wolves’ first. The Wolves are 3-1, coming off a 49-7 demolition of Olympia last week.

Olympia also was manhandled by Edgewater two weeks ago, 45-6. The Eagles took a bye week last Friday to prepare for Leesburg. They’ll be traveling to get there, hoping to improve on their 2-2 record.

Leesburg is 3-2 after beating West Port 23-7 on Sept. 26. The Eagles will kick off at 7 p.m. Friday.
