The Winter Park Wildcats hit their first losing streak of the season with two straight dropped games on the baseball diamond last week. A 5-1 blowout loss to Lake Mary started the end of a bad week, then a close 7-5 loss ended things in Oviedo.

The Wildcats (7-4, 3-1) actually struck first against Oviedo (9-4-1), scoring two runs in the first inning, and leading the game for much of the way before the stretch. But Oviedo consistently found a way to match the Wildcats throughout the game.

After tying things up repeatedly early, the Lions leapt ahead and didn’t look back.

For the Wildcats, back-to-back games against district rival Colonial (3-6, 3-2) could give them a commanding lead in the district chase. They played their first of those two games Wednesday night at press time, but will follow up at home at 7 p.m. on Friday. After that they’ll head to Freedom (2-8, 0-4) for a 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, matchup.

The Eagles (2-5, 2-0) didn’t have a single win before last week. They were also winless in the district. Then they changed both of those, winning their first two district games and grabbing their first win streak of the season in the process. And they did it all against the same team.

They edged Pine Ridge 4-3 in the first game of a two-game series, coming from behind to win the game with a run in the bottom of the seventh.

Two days later, the Eagles dealt the Panthers a blowout with a 14-2 win on a one-hit pitching masterpiece.

The Eagles faced Evans (3-6, 0-3) at press time Tuesday and will face Seabreeze (6-4-1, 0-0) in a district matchup at 4 p.m. Thursday.
