Winter Park had only one loss heading into Dr. Phillips on Nov. 8. Then they found out why the Panthers had zero.

The Wildcats held the lead in their final regular season game for a few minutes, after Boston College recruit Gabe McClary raced for a 99-yard touchdown on the opening kickoff.

Then Dr. Phillips’ dynamic, rapid-fire offense took over, scoring six unanswered touchdowns to blow away Winter Park, which didn’t score on offense in the 38-7 loss.

But not much was lost for the Wildcats, who at 8-2 will head to the regional playoffs against West Orange this week.

The last time the Wildcats played West Orange in 2006, they edged the Warriors 33-30. The Wildcats will play host in this one, kicking off at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 15 at Showalter Field. If the Wildcats win, they may face Apopka, which is undefeated so far.

Edgewater

The Eagles came within three seconds of finishing a dismal year with two straight wins, but watched Boone pass one into the end zone to finish the game 31-27. Though he never found the end zone, Edgewater’s Joe Clark ran for 153 yards to lead his team. At 1-9 the Eagles finish off one of their worst seasons in recent memory, without the chance of a playoff appearance. Six of the Eagles’ 10 losses this season came by a margin of 10 points or less.
