Woman injured on bike ride in Dr. Phillips dies after falling into coma, OCSO says

Orange County Sheriff’s Office is looking for answers in the death of a woman in Dr. Phillips who was injured during a bike ride last week.

According to a news release, Emma Ramirez, 44, left Sand Lake Private Residences off of Turkey Lake Road at around 7 a.m. Tuesday June 21, for a bike ride when she stopped and asked to use the restroom at the Westgate Resorts. Seeing that she appeared injured, security at the resort called Orange County Fire Rescue.

At the hospital, it was determined Ramirez suffered a brain injury and she soon fell into a coma, which she remained in until her death on July 2, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. 

Detectives are looking for anyone who may have seen Ramirez during her bike ride the morning of June 21 to determine how she was injured.
