Wildcats maul Eagles

The Wildcats extended their undefeated season with a monster victory over Edgewater Thursday night, 42-7.

The game marked the third consecutive time, and the fourth time this season that the Wildcats (6-0, 1-0) won by more than four touchdowns.

Once again the Wildcats’ prolific offense went to work, not quitting the scoring onslaught until the end of the game, and in the process handed an embarrassing revenge defeat to the Eagles.

A year ago nearly to the day, the Wildcats were in a familiar position. They were undefeated as they entered their sixth game, against their closest rival. But the Eagles wouldn’t have it, knocking the Wildcats back and winning in a narrow 28-14 victory. The Wildcats would not lose another game in the regular season.

But Thursday night’s game looked like it could be a repeat of 2009 early on, as the Eagles’ R.J. Altman took an interception and raced off on a wild 78-yard return into the end zone. The interception was the first quarterback Sam Richardson had thrown the entire season.

Up 7-0, the Eagles looked in control. Little did they know they wouldn’t score another touchdown for the next three and a half quarters.

After a slow start, the Wildcats’ offense bamboozled the Eagles’ defense to the tune of six touchdowns. Along the way, Richardson connected on 172 yards in the air.

The Eagles only picked up 123 yards in the game, not counting the long interception return from the defense.

On a roll with only three games left in the regular season, the Wildcats will attack two district teams in the next two weeks. Coming up at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Winter Park travels to University. The Cougars (2-5, 0-1) have lost four straight.
