Cats lose to Titans' comeback

They came into the game on their home field ranked one of the best in the state, but the Winter Park Wildcats couldn’t stop the Olympia Titans on Friday night, losing 34-17.

The two teams met in their usual kickoff classic preseason rivalry game on nearly even expectations.

The Wildcats started strong, with a blocked punt and a touchdown coming early thanks to a pass from quarterback Sam Richardson to Max Chomic, who took the ball into the end zone to put the Wildcats up 7-0.

The scoring continued for the Wildcats on a field goal, which brought the score to 10-0 before the Titans caught fire.

The Titans soon proved they were anything but on the Wildcats’ level, scoring often to close the gap and then opening up one of their own, leading two touchdowns wide by halftime.

Those scores came courtesy of Jonathan Armstrong, Henry Eady and Isaiah Bolden. Bolden is a recent Olympia transfer who came from Timber Creek with an already impressive record.

He wowed the crowd with an 89-yard punt return to give the Titans their first lead of the game.

That lead would stand for the rest of the game for the Titans, who continued to pour on the offense against a flagging Wildcats team. The Cats would only score once in the second half, watching the Titans walk away with the lead to seal the deal.

The Wildcats travel to face Winter Springs, kicking off the regular season at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3.

Edgewater

The Eagles put a damper on Hagerty quarterback Jeff Driskel’s big senior debut. Despite coming in as the top-ranked quarterback in the nation, he was repeatedly stifled by the Edgewater defense and held out of the end zone entirely in a 21-0 blowout.

In the meantime, Edgewater showed off their offense on both ends of the field, scoring early and then picking off Driskel to set up another score. Lightning put an early end to the game but not before the Eagles could put three scores on the board by the third quarter.

The Eagles travel to Dr. Phillips for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff on Friday.

Trinity Prep

The Saints decimated St. Edward’s Friday night in a 14-3 blowout. They play Northside Christian in an away game starting 7:30 p.m. Friday.
