Alfond Inn breaks ground

Rollins College recently broke ground on its Alfond Inn. The roughly 100,000-square-foot facility is located at the former Langford Hotel site and just one block from campus and Park Avenue. Groban’s donation

Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra has been selected by multi-platinum singer-songwriter Josh Groban to receive a donation from his new Find Your Light Foundation, which is dedicated to enriching the lives of young people through arts, education and cultural awareness.

Honoring vets

In honor of Veterans Day, 10,678 American flags waved in Orlando’s Loch Haven Park — one for each Central Florida resident formerly or currently serving in the U.S. military in Iraq and Afghanistan. New recycle bins

Winter Park celebrated “America Recycles Day” on Nov. 15 by announcing the placement of 10 new recycling bins on Park Avenue.

Meals for seniors

If you are a homebound elder in need of a holiday dinner delivered to your home for Thanksgiving or know someone who is, please contact JFS at 407-644-7593, extension 227. Delivery will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 23, and meals are prepared by Chef George at the Kinneret Kosher kitchen. JFS covers the cost of the 60-plus meals that are delivered. Donations of $18 or more toward the meal delivery program are accepted. Checks can be mailed to Jewish Family Services, 2100 Lee Road, Winter Park, FL 32789 or credit card information can be taken over the phone.

Cans for Queso

Qdoba Mexican Grill is launching a “Cans for Queso” food drive this Thanksgiving season in the Orlando area to support Christian HELP. From Monday, Nov. 14 thru Sunday, Nov. 20, guests can bring canned goods or non-perishable items into any Orlando-area Qdoba restaurant location.

The Ear, Nose, Throat & Plastic Surgery Associates hosted a grand opening event on Nov. 9 at their new, state-of-the-art 15,000-square-foot Winter Park office on the corner of Lakemont and Mizell avenues at 133 Benmore Drive, Suite 100.

Lee Nimkoff, a partner at Brio Properties, a real estate investment company based in Winter Park, has earned her CCIM Designation from the CCIM Institute. CCIM is considered the "PhD of Commercial Real Estate" held by only 10 percent of the country's commercial real estate professionals. Nimkoff, who is in business with her husband, Lou, also holds the CPM designation, as does Lou. This makes them the only couple in the country to hold both the CPM and CCIM designations.

Baldwin Park-based Cuhaci & Peterson Architects LLC was recently awarded contracts to design the transformation remodeling of two Winn-Dixie grocery stores — one in Jupiter and the other in Pembroke Pines.

Fifth Third Bank Central Florida recently volunteered for United Way’s Days of Caring events. Several executives provided their services as team captains to work with organizations such as Boys & Girls Club of Central Florida, Harbor House of Central Florida, PACE Center for Girls, Pathways to Hope and more. Days of Caring is United Way’s effort to improve lives and build a stronger, healthier community.

NAI Realvest recently negotiated a new lease agreement for 19,355 square feet of industrial space at Suite 140 of Lake Mary Business Center, 1150 Emma Oaks Trail in Lake Mary.

The Central Florida office of SIKON Construction, Maitland, partnered with Target Corporation, Heart of America Foundation and Broward County Public Schools on the 2011 Target School Library Makeover at Lauderdale Manors Elementary School, where a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house were held Nov. 4 at 1400 NW 14 Court, Fort Lauderdale.
