Free rides for seniors

ITNOrlando is a nonprofit organization that offers affordable, curbside transportation to hundreds of local seniors anytime, anywhere. Before a volunteer gives their first ride, ITNOrlando conducts a background check, a driving test and a safety inspection of their vehicle. To further ensure the ride remains safe and reliable, the organization recently partnered with Driver’s Mart, which is maintaining the volunteer drivers’ vehicles free of charge. ITNOrlando offers the car service for $1.50 per mile plus a $4 pick-up charge, with financial assistance available to those in need. The organization operates in portions of Orange and Seminole counties. For more information or to become a volunteer driver, visit itnorlando.org

Free guide for aging drivers

The Florida Guide for Aging Drivers is a handy book available at no cost to senior drivers, compliments of the Florida Safe Mobility for Life Coalition. The guide gives aging drivers a comprehensive resource with the most up-to-date information available. Users will find safe driving tips, licensing information, lists of resources and community contacts for every county in the state. This book complements the website www.SafeandMobileSeniors.org and is just the right size for the car’s glove box and available through the Safe Mobility for Life Resource Center, 636 W. Call St., Tallahassee, FL 32306. Email [email protected]

Embracing Ethnic Diversity

By embracing the ethnic diversity of the residents in long-term care, residents feel more comfortable in their new surroundings. They will enjoy sharing their culture, traditional foods and holidays with their new friends. Pam Ruben and Nancy Ludin from the Jewish Pavilion are available to present workshops on Caregiving for the Jewish Elderly. The first workshop was held at Horizon Bay and included the tasting of matzah ball soup, challah, kugel and toffee matzah, all generous donated and homemade. To book a presentation, call 407-678-9363. Visit jewishpavilion.org for more information.
