The Wildcats watched a 6-3 lead turn into a 14-6 comeback loss to Freedom on Sept. 28. And now with a 1-4 record on their hands, the Wildcats are looking to make a comeback of their own.

Winter Park quarterback Asiantii Wouldard found the end zone first in the game against the 3-1 Patriots, but after that the Wildcats struggled to find any offense at all. That lone score would be their only one in the game. Meanwhile the Patriots mounted a comeback over the next two quarters that would upend the score and hand the Wildcats their third straight loss.

Coming up for the Wildcats on Oct. 12 may be one of the toughest games they’ll have all season. Evans (3-1) has blown out its last three opponents, including a 41-7 trouncing of South Lake on Sept. 21. The team’s potent offense and stingy defense has combined for a 120-24 point differential in Evans’ three wins, including a 37-7 win over University, a team that defeated the Wildcats.

The Wildcats will have two weeks recovery time before they hit the gridiron again. Then they’ll hit the road for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff on Friday, Oct. 12.

Edgewater

The Eagles (1-3) have their first win of the season after decimating Oak Ridge 28-6 on Sept. 21, but they’ll have to hope to keep the momentum going after two weeks of rest.

Now the Eagles are gearing up for a showdown with Winter Springs (1-3) and their best chance at starting a win streak. Winter Springs will have the same break heading into that game, but coming off a 47-0 shutout at the hands of Lake Brantley.

Edgewater will have the benefit of their home field when they take on the Bears, who have struggled defensively this season. Edgewater quarterback J.B. Woodman has thrown for nearly 200 yards in games against weak pass defense. But he’s been stifled when opponents’ secondary can find his receivers, forcing most of the offensive work on running back Jon Altman.

That game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5.
