Six unanswered scores by Boone turned a confident Winter Park 20-7 lead into a 44-26 ‘what if?’ loss on the gridiron on Sept. 14.

After a pair of quick touchdowns plus some key stops in the first quarter seemingly put Winter Park (1-2) in the driver’s seat in Boone’s (2-0) home stadium, the momentum slowly started to swing the other way, as the Braves mounted a comeback that would see them go up 21-20 shortly before the halftime whistle.

From then on it was all Braves, who accelerated away from the Wildcats, who continued to rack up big yards thanks to quarterback Asiantii Woulard’s prolific, if inconsistent, arm en route to 250 yards in the air. Woulard would connect on the first touchdown of the night, but his arm would not carry the Wildcats into the end zone for the rest of the game.

Edmond Jacob’s legs did the most damage for the Wildcats, as he ran for two touchdowns, while Ian Banks-Tillman picked up one more on the ground.

But after the Braves’ offensive onslaught, it wasn’t enough for the Wildcats, who were outscored 23-6 in the second half.

For the Wildcats, a second loss in three games is a tough start, but Friday they’ll face a University team that has suffered worse en route to an identical 1-2 record. The Cougars are coming off a 37-7 dismantling by the Evans Trojans.

The game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Friday at University.

The Eagles are working on a tough 0-3 start to the season after a 38-6 loss to visiting Madison County left them with their biggest loss of the season.

One caveat: The team the Eagles lost to is ranked second in the state in their class.

Madison County’s diverse running attack confused the Eagles, despite no passing game to spread out the defense. Five different Cowboys ran for five touchdowns in the game as Eagles quarterback J.B. Woodman tried his best to fight back with a passing attack that found the end zone once, but never again.

Friday the Eagles travel to take on an Oak Ridge team that’s 3-0 after blasting East River 42-0. The last time the two teams met, on the same weekend last year, the Eagles won 14-6.
