FEB. 14

The REP, located at 1001 E. Princeton St. in Orlando, opens “Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat” on Feb. 14, and it will be playing until March 24. As it is the REP’s 10th Birthday Season, there is an Opening Saturday Ticket Special on Feb. 16 at the 2 p.m. or 5:30 p.m. performances, where patrons can purchase one adult ticket and receive one child’s ticket for free. Universal Republic Records recording artist Mat Kearney will perform at Full Sail University’s fourth Annual Hall of Fame week at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16. Vanguard Records artist and singer/songwriter Marc Broussard will perform at Full Sail University’s fourth Annual Hall of Fame week with a special free Valentine’s Day concert at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14. Leu Gardens will play the movie, “The Vow” on Valentine’s Day, Thursday, Feb. 14 at 7:30 p.m. Leu Gardens, located at 1920 N. The Bach Festival Society will present its 78th annual Bach Festival from Feb. 15-March 3. Christopher Houlihan, an American organist, will perform works by Camille Saint-Saëns, J.S. The Council of 101 will present its 31st annual Antiques Vintage & Garden Show Friday, Feb. 15 through Sunday, Feb. 17 at the Orlando Museum of Art, located at 2416 N. Mills Ave. in Orlando. The shows will feature highly respected dealers offering an array of fine quality antique furniture, paintings, jewelry, oriental rugs, porcelain and vintage collectibles. The 2013 Love Your Shorts Film Festival will be held Feb. 15-17 at the historic Wayne Densch Performing Arts Center featuring a lineup of 72 short films from 12 countries. Films will be shown in seven categories (comedy, drama, animation, documentary, sci-fi/horror, Florida Flavor, and E for Everyone), plus an opening-night variety of films, and a Best of the Fest competition on closing night. Orange County Government/Parks and Recreation Division is joining with the City of Orlando, Orange Audubon Society, and Atkins to present this year’s 13th Annual Orlando Wetlands Festival on Saturday, Feb. 16 from 9a.m.-3 p.m., at Fort Christmas Historical Park, located at 1300 Fort Christmas Rd. in Christmas. This free event is an opportunity to celebrate the flora, fauna and wildlife of the Orlando Wetlands Park – a 1,650-acre wetland oasis located on Wheeler Road in Christmas. The House of Hope Run Around the Pines 5K presented by Florida Hospital will take place Saturday, Feb. 16 at Showalter Field in Winter Park, located at 2525 Cady Way. The third annual Ty Lewis Cancer Foundation Unite for Life Challenge Walk will be Saturday, Feb. 16 at 9:30 a.m. around Lake Baldwin. The event benefits the Ty Lewis Cancer Foundation, which aims to help those who have a family member that has been diagnosed with, or lost the fight to cancer. The TLCF raises funds in support of families for household items, medications, financial support and scholarship funds for children. The Orlando Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota is having its annual Scholarship Fundraising Concert on Sunday, Feb. 17th at 2 p.m. at Tiedtke Concert Hall. “A Celebration of American Composers” will include over 75 minutes of chamber music, art songs, folk songs, and much more. The performance will feature Rollins College Department of Music Faculty, along with previous scholarship winners. The Breakthrough Theatre of Winter Park, located at 421 W. Fairbanks Ave., will hold auditions for the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, “Jesus Christ Superstar” on Saturday, Feb. 16, from noon-2 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 17 from 6-8 p.m. The musical is directed by Wade Hair and musical-directed by Justin Scarlat. Heather Alexander and Laura Hodos will return to the Winter Park Playhouse Spotlight Cabaret Series with a new cabaret, “All You Need is Love,” on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 24 at 5:30 p.m. Playhouse Musical Director Christopher Leavy will accompany the duo on piano. The Winter Park Chamber of Commerce and Park Avenue Merchants will host its first Winter Park Sip & Stroll for 2013 on Thursday, Feb. 21 from 5-8:30 p.m. Attendees will enjoy appetizer and beverage samples at more than 25 local merchants. Tickets will not be mailed, but confirmations will be emailed for registrations submitted through PayPal. Only 300 tickets will be sold. Check-in will be at Luxury Trips, located at 190 E. The Goldenrod Historical Society & Museum will host the Central Florida Veterans Memorial Foundation on Saturday, Feb. 23 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Goldenrod Station, located at 4755 N. Palmetto Ave. Attendees can tour the museum and visit with members of this local organization dedicated to honoring veterans who left Orange, Lake, Brevard, Osceola, Seminole and Volusia counties, paid the ultimate sacrifice, and never returned. Those in attendance can also pick up a Centennial Passport or bring their own to be stamped. Children can receive a prize for answering a History Quest clue. The February Field Trip will be at the Ferndale Preserve, located at 19220 County Road 455 in Ferndale, on Saturday, Feb. 23. Attendees will meet at 8:30 a.m. in the preserve parking lot. From there, birders will hike along a 1.3-mile loop and a few shorter segments. Warning: the trail includes steep portions. Bring a picnic lunch for after the birding. The Art & History Museums – Maitland (A&H) will continue its popular Artists’ Critique & Conservation series on Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 6 p.m. The program is free and the public is encouraged to attend. Josh Garrick, an artist, arts writer and instructor, will lead the critique. Terry Hummel and Thomas Thorspecken will join Garrick as guest panelists. A professional development series for artists, Artists’ Critique & Convention, is held on the fourth Tuesday of every month in A&H’s Germaine Marvel Building, located at 210 W. The Winter Park Institute at Rollins College will host Dr. Azar Nafisi, author of “Reading Lolita in Tehran,” on Feb. 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the Tiedtke Concert Hall, Keene Music Building, at Rollins College, which is located at 1000 Holt Ave. in Winter Park. Nafisi will discuss the relationship between politics, culture and human rights in Iran. She will also emphasize the rights of women and girls and the role they play in the process of change for pluralism and an open society. The Bach Festival Society presents the 78th Annual Bach Festival Feb.15-March 3. The Society will present several works that it has never performed before, including J.S. The Breakthrough Theatre, located at 419A W. Fairbanks Ave. in Winter Park, will honor Elvis Presley with shows running through Feb. 11. The Winter Park Playhouse continues its 10th Anniversary Series of professional musical theatre with “My Way: A Musical Tribute to Frank Sinatra,” through Feb. 16, 2013. Thursday performances will take place Jan. 31 and Feb. 7 and 14 at 2 p.m. Friday performances will be Feb. 1, 8 and 15 at 7:30 p.m. Saturday performances will take place Feb. 2, 9 and 16 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday performances will be at 2 p.m. on Feb 3 and 10. “The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle” will be playing through Feb. 24 at the Orlando Repertory Theatre. “Sewn Together: Photographic Quilts Reflecting the Historic Family Ties of Eatonville, Maitland and Winter Park” will be on exhibit through Saturday, April 13 at the Hannibal Square Heritage Center, a program of Crealdé School of Art that is located at 642 W. Yuanyan (Anne) Huang, a student of Chinese martial arts for 18 years and four-time champion of Anhui Province, China, will teach seven sessions of this ancient Chinese routine 6-7 p.m. Monday nights through Feb. 25 at the Winter Park Public Library Community Room. The sessions are limited to 14 particpants, seven of which must be pre-paid in order to hold the class. Seven sessions will cost $35 for institute members and $56 for nonmembers. The Holocaust Memorial Resource and Education Center will be hosting the exhibit “The Plot: A Graphic History of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion.” until March 20. “Laughter on the 23rd Floor,” a comedy by Neil Simon, will take place at the Mad Cow Theatre, located at 54 W. Church St., through Sunday, Feb. 17. The Maitland Public Library, located at 501 S. Maitland Ave. will have the following events in which visitors can attend: Preschool Stories on Tuesdays from 10:30-11:30 a.m. and on Thursdays a walk at 6:30 a.m., Baby Time from 10:30-11:30 a.m., and Adventures with Books Club from 2-4 p.m. On Saturday, Feb. 2 from 11 a.m. -noon Scott Thomas and Social Security will be the topic. On Sunday, Feb. 3, Elaine Person will teach poetry from 3:30-5:30 p.m. and there will be a Volunteer Reception in the conference room from 2-4 p.m.

The Classic Repertory Series will include performances of “Othello” through March 16 and “Sense and Sensibility” through March 17. Shows on Wednesdays and Thursdays will be at 7 p.m. and seats will cost $20, $30 and $35. Friday and Saturday shows will be at 8 p.m. and seats will cost $30, $35 and $40.
