NOV. 6

Join the Hannibal Square Community Land Trust Inc. for an after-hours reception to celebrate 10 years of providing quality and affordable housing. NOV. 7

On Friday, Nov. 7, at 10 a.m. the city of Winter Park will present its fourth annual Veterans Day Celebration. This event will be at the Winter Park Community Center Ruby Ball Amphitheatre located at 721 W. New England Ave. Hometown hero and star of the SuperBowl XLVIII commercial filmed in Winter Park this past January, Lt. Chuck Nadd, will be the featured guest speaker. Beginning at 9:30 a.m., the VFW Post 2093 Community Band will be entertaining guests as they visit with organizations and services that offer resources specifically for veteran needs. On Nov. 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Orlando Garden Club will host a Holiday Market and Plant & Craft Sale. The Club is located at 710 E. Rollins St. in Orlando. A variety of garden plants, tropical plants, orchids, various types of jewelry, handcrafted items, and unique and custom gifts will all be available for sale. The event offers free admission, free parking, a free plant to early shoppers, raffle items, and lunch and refreshments available for reasonable prices. Get a jump on holiday shopping during Winter Park Presbyterian Church’s annual Alternative Global Christmas Market on Saturday, Nov. 8, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 9, from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. and open again from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. The market will take place inside Fellowship Hall at the church at 400 S. Lakemont Ave. in Winter Park. Non-profit organizations will be selling a variety of items, many made by artisans to support their families in developing countries. The IAAP Winter Park Chapter invites the public to invest in their careers and attend an educational seminar teaching you skills “Beyond the Basics” from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8, at the UCF Rosen College of Hospitality Management. The Winter Park crew boosters are having a fundraiser at the Winter Park Crew Boathouse on Saturday, Nov. 8. Fine wine, delicious food, a bonfire by the lake, and live jazz all transform the boathouse into a magical setting to make new and revive old friendships. The event is open to the public and of special interest to any former or collegiate rowers who would enjoy meeting and getting involved in a huge source of pride to Winter Park. Winter Park is pleased to present a new event, “Chalk the Walk” in Central Park to be held Saturday, Nov. 8, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is similar to a street-painting festival, but unique in that the sidewalks of beautiful Central Park will become the canvas on which artists create their magnificent works of chalk art. The event is open to spectators all day. Prizes for the show totaling $2,500 will be presented to winners from adult, high school and middle school categories. Winners will be announced from the main stage in Central Park at 5 p.m. To participate and chalk in the event is free and open to the public. Members from the Maitland community will celebrate Veterans Day on Sunday, Nov. 9, at 3 p.m. at the Maitland Civic Center at 641 S. Maitland Ave. All veterans, service men and women, their family, and their guests are welcome to participate. Beginning at 4 p.m., the program will feature a military-style colors ceremony, performances from the Maitland Military Band and a special guest speaker. The International Community School is hosting their second annual Bizarre Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in their gymnasium. The Bizarre Bazaar is a marketplace filled with items crafted by local artisans, as well as merchandise provided by local businesses. You can spend your time walking through the gymnasium and enjoy browsing more than 70 high quality vendors. The Morse Museum’s six-month season of free Friday nights begins anew next Friday, Nov. 7. Hours from November through April will now be: 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday through Thursday and Saturday; 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday (with free admission from 4 to 8 p.m.); and 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday. On Friday nights during the holiday and spring seasons, the museum will also have live music for five consecutive weeks, along with gallery tours and special programs on select dates.
