OCPS celebrates scholarship winners

Orange County Public Schools celebrates the announcement of six additional 2014-15 graduates who were chosen as National Merit $2,500 Scholarship winners, including Winter Park High School senior Karen Sun. The $2,500 Merit Scholar designees were chosen from a talent pool of more than 15,000 outstanding finalists in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program. Winners are the finalists in each state judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies.

Super Scholars honored

Orange County Public Schools honored 74 “Super Scholars” from the graduating class of 2015 earlier this month. These students have been accepted into 32 of the top colleges, universities and U.S. service academies in the world, according to the U.S. News and World Report. Among this year’s Super Scholars are 15 students who have been accepted at an Ivy League School, 11 made it into Duke and five to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Local honorees included Mikayla Rudolph, Mitchell Ochse, Greg Umali and James Radcliff from Edgewater High School, and Anna Johnson, Fiona Campbell, Sarah Sculco, Merin Thomas, Dylan Mavrides, Jenna Adamczak, Karen Sun, Jake Shepherd, Jordan Young, Jitain Kumar, Jeffrey P. Colton, Ratushtar Kapadia, Xiong-Fei Du, Joseph Deatrick, Elizabeth Hunpatin, all from Winter Park High School.

Summer break

The Observer’s education section will not run during the summer months. The section will return in the last issue of August once school starts up again!
