The Winter Park Autumn Art Festival is the only juried fine art festival to feature Florida artists exclusively. The Winter Park Chamber of Commerce is proud to host the festival on the second weekend in October each year. The community-oriented sidewalk show presents quality visual art and live entertainment the whole family can enjoy. The festival is held in beautiful Central Park located along historic Park Avenue in downtown Winter Park on Saturday, Oct. 10, and Sunday, Oct. 11, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free. Two years ago Josh Garrick had the unprecedented honor of making history as the first non-Greek artist in the world to exhibit in the National Archaeological Museum of Greece. That exhibit has returned from a two-year tour of Europe to open the new HENAO Contemporary Center, located at 5601 Edgewater Drive in Orlando, on Oct. 10 and run through Jan. 4. “Timeless: Past Present Future,” the opening night will be a fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Florida. Celebrate the opening of the historic Capen-Showalter House on Oct. 11 at the Albin Polasek Museum and Sculpture Gardens in Winter Park. After almost two years of moving and restoring the house, it will be open for a new generation of guests. Admission will be free from 1 to 4 p.m. for the open house. Park Avenue Fashion Week presented by Harriett Lake celebrates the local fashion and retail design community. A full week of events, from trunk shows to designer meet-and-greets pack a fashionable agenda from Sunday, Oct. 11, to Saturday, Oct. 17. The Maitland Fire Rescue Department is providing free CPR training to the community. Participants can learn CPR for adults, children and infants, AED training and how to handle choking emergencies. The training will be held on Oct. 13 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Maitland City Hall, located at 1776 Independence Lane. Reservations are required and children must be at least 12 years old. Winter Park Memorial Hospital will be hosting a VIP Charmed by Charity event to benefit Pink Out Winter Park on Oct. 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Alex and Ani Winter Park retail location. There will be complimentary refreshments, light bites and door prizes. Fifteen percent of all proceeds will be donated to the Winter Park Memorial Hospital Mammography Scholarship Fund. Lezlie Laws, Ph.D., professor emerita of English at Rollins College and a certified teacher of yoga, will teach how to create a Zen garden from scratch. The annual free homecoming parade and pep rally for Winter Park High School will make its way down Park Avenue beginning at 5:15 p.m. on Oct. 14. The pep rally at the main stage in Central Park starts at 6 p.m. Attendees are invited to show support for Winter Park High School students, faculty and alumni.

Local physician Cindy LaRoe was an avid cyclist until she crashed at a race. She suffered a traumatic brain injury that left her unable to work as a physician, which prompted her to focus on her passion for art. Cindy, her husband Ken LaRoe and First GREEN Bank are sponsoring the Art of Medicine Gala on Oct. 15 to benefit the Brain Injury Association of Florida and support the thousands of lives who have found relief through the organization. Winter Springs ARToberFEST, presented by Bright House Networks Business Solutions, will feature the work of award-winning artists, German food and drink, live music and an interactive kids area on Friday, Oct. 17, and Saturday, Oct. 18, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Winter Springs Town Center, located at State Road 434 and Tuskawilla Road in Winter Springs. Get ready for a show right out of yesteryear! The big band era is back, brought to life by The Orlando Big Band on Friday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m. Bob Carr Theater, located at 401 W. Livingston St. With their vintage ’40s orchestra, they will transport you to an era when America was producing some of the greatest music of all time! Maitland Symphony Orchestra, MSO, is a community group of over 120 members that all share the love of performance and playing beautiful music. Four performances occur inside their host facility in Maitland every year for the past 10 years, and their free shows are always packed to standing room only. The concert on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 7:30 p.m. lets a wider audience of families come picnic at this open air concert on the beautiful outdoor stage at Mead Botanical Garden in Winter Park. The audience sits under the stars and the MSO performs under the direction of Associate Conductors Eric Mendez and Dale Burket. Opening for the MSO is the Baroque Chamber Orchestra. The Baroque Chamber Orchestra, Performing Arts of Maitland’s newest musical group, performs at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31, at the Maitland Presbyterian Church, located at 341 N. Orlando Ave. Listen to the enchanting sounds of harpsichord and strings under direction of Dr. Alvaro Gomez. The BCO brings Baroque alive and even into the 21st century by playing contemporary compositions in the style of the Baroque. The 42st annual Great Day in the Country Arts & Crafts Festival is produced by the GFWC Oviedo Woman's Club. The Festival, which is free to attendees, is on Saturday, Nov. 14, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Historic Lawton House and Lawton Elementary School in Oviedo, located at 200 W. Broadway St. This year over 400 arts and crafts vendors will be displaying and selling items that are perfect for gifts or your own home.
