Winter Park Commissioner earns award

The Florida League of Cities has recognized Winter Park Commissioner Carolyn Cooper with a 2015 Home Rule Hero Award. This prestigious award was presented to Cooper for her tireless efforts to advance the League’s legislative agenda and help protect the home rule powers of Florida’s cities during the 2015 legislative session. Home Rule Hero Award recipients are local government officials, both elected and non-elected, who consistently responded to the League’s request to reach out to members of the legislature and help give a local perspective to an issue.

Taste of the Nation supports childhood feeding programs

Orlando's Taste of the Nation for No Kid Hungry celebrated its 26th year by raising $277,160 to support the childhood feeding programs of Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida, Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, statewide organization Florida Impact and national beneficiary Share Our Strength. Forty-three of the area’s most distinguished chefs along with two dozen craft brewers, wine purveyors and spirit vendors came together at the Orlando World Center Marriott on Aug. 8 to tantalize more than 2,700 guests with sips and samples to help ensure no child grows up hungry in Central Florida and across America.
