Join the Center for Independent Living for its 40th anniversary party “Celebrating Independence,” honoring the work and dedication of founding members Dick Batchelor and the late Beverly Chapman. Attendees will enjoy cocktails, a silent auction, and dinner. Funds raised from the occasion will go toward benefiting CIL’s mission to create an inclusive community in Central Florida and continue helping those impacted by disabilities. With great pride, the Cornell Fine Arts Museum, in collaboration with the Department of Art and Art History at Rollins College, is pleased to announce the debut of “UNABBREVIATED,” an exhibition showcasing the work of eight senior art majors from the class of 2016. The exhibit runs from April 16 through May 9, with a preview to be held on Friday, April 15, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Cornell Fine Arts Museum. The event is free and open to the public. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 16 Trinity Preparatory School will host the JM 24 Fun Run. The school is at located at 5700 Trinity Prep Lane in Winter Park. All of the proceeds from the run will go to John Michael Knight, a student who was the victim of a stroke resulting in locked-in syndrome. Health care innovator and world-renowned hand and upper extremity surgeon, Alejandro Badia, will address urgent care professionals Tuesday, April 19, at the Urgent Care Association of America’s spring convention. This year’s conference will be hosted at the Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center in Orlando. Badia will discuss management of common hand, wrist and upper limb pathology in the urgent care setting. Six years ago Badia launched the OrthoNOW concept, which blends urgent care with orthopedics. The Run for the Trees Jeannette Genius McKean Memorial 5K will be held on Saturday, April 23, beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the Showalter Field. Come out for a great ladies night for charity supporting ICAN of Central Florida from 7 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, at the Holiday Inn located at 1724 N. Alafaya Trail in Orlando. Bring your daughter to a Magical Undersea World – the 2016 Princess Ball – on Saturday, April 30, from 6 to 9 p.m. This magical night highlights the positive relationship between fathers and daughters. Jones Family Foundation will be hosting the Princess Ball, at the Wyndham Grand Orlando Bonnet Creek Resort and proceeds from this event will support the programs of Florida Hospital for Children. This event features entertainment from professional ballet dancers and pageant winners, along with food, photo booth, face painting, carriage rides, silent auction, professional photography, and of course, many of the princesses from our favorite fairy tale stories. A Labyrinth Design Class will be held Saturday, April 30, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs, located at 1400 S. Denning Drive in Winter Park, just south of Mead Botanical Garden. This Labyrinth Design and Shamanic Gardening Workshop will offer a rare opportunity to learn how to create a 7-Path Labyrinth, a classical design that has been used worldwide for more than 3500 years. Labyrinths are spiritual spaces; used for self-reflection, personal insight, healing, and to develop peace and harmony among families and neighbors.
