The Winter Park Chamber of Commerce rang in 2016 with a series of events and programs. Rev. Shawn Garvey from First Congregational Church of Winter Park encouraged members to pause and reset for the New Year at Good Morning Winter Park. Mayor Steve Leary delivered his first State of the City Address before a sold-out audience at The Alfond Inn. And, just last week, we joined the Winter Park-Maitland Observer in celebrating the “best of” local businesses at the 2016 Ovations Awards Ceremony. You can see photos and highlights from these events at our website winterpark.org and on Facebook at facebook.com/winterparkchamber.
Love is in the air
Make a date with your sweetheart for Sunday, Feb. 7, for A Valentine Concert in Central Park and enjoy an afternoon of music, art and romance. Members of the Bach Festival Choir and Orchestra will play an intimate concert in Central Park before Michael Andrew & Swingerhead take the stage. This free event is the ideal place to spread a picnic basket and experience the charm of Park Avenue. Sunday’s choir and orchestra concert with John Sinclair begins at 1:30 p.m. and Michael Andrew performs from 2:30 to 5 p.m.
Come early, bring a picnic blanket and stay afterward for dinner on the Avenue at one of our event supporters, including 310 Park South, Bosphorous Turkish Cuisine, Cocina 214, or Pannullo’s Italian Restaurant.
Candidates & Conversation
As municipal elections draw closer, the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce encourages you to attend several upcoming programs to hear from the candidates for City Commission and learn more about the bond referendum for a new library and events center. A City Commission Candidate Forum will be held at the Winter Park Welcome Center at 7:45 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 12. The one-hour forum is an opportunity to hear from the candidates on a variety of issues. Information on additional forums is available at cityofwinterpark.org under Election Info.
The Winter Park Chamber of Commerce will also host “An Opportunity for Everyone: A 21st Century Library, Events Center and Parking for Winter Park” on Feb. 19 as part of its Good Morning Winter Park series beginning at 7:45 a.m. Library Executive Director Shawn Shaffer and City Manager Randy Knight will present the vision for a new library facility, events center and parking structure to serve Winter Park residents, families and businesses. They will answer questions about the project and the referendum to fund it, which will appear on the March 15 ballot.
Questions for both events may be submitted in advance at winterpark.org. Both programs are free and open to the public.
Show some love to local charities
And finally, the Rotary Club of Winter Park presents its fifth annual Chili for Charity event on Wednesday, Feb. 17, at the Winter Park Farmers Market. From 5:30 to 8 p.m. guests can sample a variety of chili creations, all with a Winter Park attitude, from local restaurants, caterers and even submissions from local businesses. Event highlights include live music, silent auction and prizes for the chili entrants. Net proceeds will be distributed to Winter Park charities through the Rotary Club’s foundation later this year. Tickets and information can be found online at chiliforcharity.org or search for the event on Facebook.
