Maitland celebrates EMS Week

Since 1973, Emergency Medical Services Week has honored EMS professionals and the vital care they deliver to the patients in our community. This week helps to recognize and celebrate the important relationship between EMS providers and the public they serve. As EMS has evolved into a vital public health safety net, that relationship is as important today as it was when EMS was first established back in 1969. As the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians states, “EMS is...a valued participant in achieving the nation's overall healthcare goals of improved patient health and lowered costs.”

EMS is an essential component of the services provided by our Maitland Fire Rescue Department that makes our community stronger and more resilient. The commitment to provide the highest standards of emergency medicine has translated into the department recently being conferred accreditation from the Commission on Ambulance Accreditation Services. Each year, Maitland’s Fire Rescue Department responds to close to 4,000 medical- or trauma-related calls annually and transports over 1,700 patients to local hospital emergency rooms. The members of the Fire Rescue team engage in thousands of hours of specialized training to enhance their lifesaving skills and become the best care providers possible. Each and every hour of every day, Maitland’s citizens and business owners benefit from the work of our firefighter paramedics.

The city of Maitland would like you to join us in recognizing the 42nd annual National EMS Week from May 15 to 21. On May 15, 16, and 17 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. we invite all residents, businesses, and visitors to stop by Fire Station #45 on Independence Lane or Fire Station #47 on Fennell Street to meet your emergency medical providers and to tour the facilities. While you are at it, have your blood pressure checked for free!
