It’s been a productive last couple of weeks for the Saints boys swim team — our Observer Preps Team of the Week — as they’ve managed to go big this swim season.

Led by Jan Collazo Torres’ wins in the 50 free and 100 free, and team wins in the 200-medley relay and 400-free relay, the Saints took first place in the FHSAA 1A, Region 2 — but they didn’t just stop there.

On Saturday, the Saints went big in the Class 1A state finals with a third-place overall finish.

On the individual level, Luke Uttley and Collazo Torres took home first and second in the 100 free, but the big news from the meet came in the form of huge wins in the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays.

Bolles, a powerhouse in Florida high school swimming, won their 30th consecutive team title, but the Bulldogs inability to win the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays came as a shock.

Up until the Saints’ wins on Saturday, the Bulldogs had won 29-straight titles in the 400, and had won the 200-yard title 24 times in the past 27 years.

The Saints took the 200-free with a time of 1:23.64, while taking the 400-free in a little over three minutes (3:03.03). Torres, Uttley, and seniors Matthew Degtyar and Reese Gawronski led the Saints in both the 400-free relay and 200-free relay.
