Rollins College might move another step closer to a new black box theater this afternoon.

The Winter Park City Commission will take a vote on the project at its Jan. 14 meeting – looking at plans that would entail the redevelopment of the old Fred Stone Theater.

The old building — which sat at the southwest corner of Fairbanks and Chase avenues before it was torn down last year — will be replaced with a new 11,665-square-foot black box theater.

That new performance area will seat 130 people and feature retractable seating for maximum flexibility with the space, along with faculty offices, dressing rooms, classrooms and general storage areas.
