The Camellia Society of Central Florida hosted the 66th Annual Camellia Show and Festival on Saturday, Jan. 21, at Mead Botanical Garden in Winter Park. Sanctioned by the American Camellia Society, the CSCF show and festival is Florida’s largest camellia show.
Winter Park Mayor Ken Bradley opened the Unity Heritage Festival on Monday, Jan. 16, which was observed in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. The Israel family was among two families honored for being among the founding families of Winter Park.
On January 10, the City of Winter Park hosted a ceremony to unveil its latest green initiative - six electric car charging stations. The unveiling ceremony took place at the electric car charging station located at 120 Garfield Avenue. Several electric cars currently available on the market were on display, and residents and visitors were invited to charge their car for FREE at any of the six new locations:
Crealdé School of Art in Winter Park hosted an open house Saturday, Jan. 7, for its newly refurbished darkroom preserving and celebrating the art of film photography and development. The day culminated in a “Night of Fire” as the campus was ignited by a live bronze sculpture pour, kiln fires and handmade clay lanterns.
The city of Maitland continue to press forward in anticipation of the Fire Station completion. The current schedule calls for FD Admin to move in on Jan. 9, Operations on the 13th, and the Grand Opening is scheduled for Jan. 19. SoNapa Grille, a restaurant in New Smyrna Beach specializing in Napa Valley and Sonoma County cuisine and wine, opened a second location last week in the former Steak and Ale building, which stood vacant for three years across from Lake Lily in Maitland. Fine wines, flat breads, soups, salads, fresh fish, hand-cut steak grilled over an open flame, fresh herbs, fried fruits, artesian cheeses and foods centered around olives and grapes make up the menu.
