At the finish line, a snow machine blew fake snow on the runners as they completed the Light the Night 5k.
Damaris Diaz embraced Jan Leisher after the race. Both of Diaz’s children had Leisher as a teacher when they attended Bridgewater Middle School.
During the run, more than $4,000 was raised to benefit Bridgewater Middle School teacher Jan Leisher who is battling breast cancer.
After the run, tenth-grader Danny Sgattoni pulled out his soprano saxophone and started playing Jingle Bells.
More than 200 runners came out to the Light the Night 5k on Dec. 14 that was held at Independence.
WINTER GARDEN More than 200 runners came out for the Light the Night 5K on Wednesday Dec. 14 in support of Bridgewater Middle School teacher Jan Leisher who is battling stage 4 breast cancer that has metastasized to her bones. Participants wore glow-sticks and ran along a fitness trail at Independence that was lit by hundreds of luminary bags. Leisher waited at the finish line and was given dozens of hugs from runners. By the end of the night, more than $4,000 had been raised for Leisher.
