CLERMONT — Finley Cassidy had 6 goals and to pair with 4 goals from Ashley Matthews along with 3 goals and 2 assists from Emily Headley as the Olympia Titans defeated the West Orange Warriors in the District 13 Girls Lacrosse Championship on Thursday at East Ridge High School.
"It was amazing — it was a team effort and we all came together," Cassidy said. "(Head coach Elyse DeLisle) has really pushed us and she's taught us not only to play with intensity but also with heart and as a team — the hard work from practice has really come together."
The No. 5 Titans (16-2) actually trailed the No. 20 Warriors (14-6) early in the contest, but created distance toward the back end of the first half. Then, early in the second half, West Orange made its run to cut the lead to 11-7 before Olympia responded with authority and put the contest out of reach.
"We knew it was going to be a fight the entire game," DeLisle said. "I think our goalie made some big saves that kind of was the spark for the defense, which triggered the midfield and went on to the attack."
The district title is the first piece of hardware for the program under DeLisle's leadership, with this being the first year at the helm for the Olympia alumna-turned-coach, but the Titans — who will play in the first round of the state playoffs on April 17 — are certainly not content yet.
"I have my sights set higher for them and they know that," DeLisle said. "I think they're feeding off of that and feeding off of each other."
