The West Orange community commemorated the anniversary of Windermere police officer Robert “Robbie” German’s end-of-watch with two events last weekend.
The town of Windermere hosted a solemn Memorial Dedication and Candlelight Vigil Saturday, March 21, to unveil a memorial plaque.
The next day, the Windermere Police Foundation hosted the first Officer Robert “Robbie” German Memorial Softball Tournament and Family Fun Day at Braddock Park in Winter Garden. Police agencies and companies from throughout Central Florida formed teams to play in the tournament, which Windermere Police Chief Dave Ogden hopes becomes an annual event.
All money raised will be used to support German’s family and raise money to help support his family and fellow officers to be able attend both the state and national Fallen Officer Memorials to be held in Tallahassee and Washington, D.C., later this year.
German was shot and killed March 21, 2014, by two runaway teens from Polk County.
