The CFCA Eagles had a different feel — and look — to them when they took the field for the first time in 2018.
After a 2017 season that saw the Eagles go 2-8, reliant upon a youthful roster that was ravaged by injuries, the program had some spring in its step May 19 as it decimated visiting Warner Christian (South Daytona) 30-0 in two quarters.
Victor Jones Jr., Jamari Cook, Macena Gay and Lorenzo Burdon scored touchdowns for CFCA. Visual Russell started at quarterback.
While roster-size was an issue for their visitors, the Eagles were enjoying a full sideline that included returners from last fall, as well as a handful of additions from the school's state-semifinalist boys basketball team.
In just one half of action, CFCA showed its potential to return to contention in the Sunshine State Athletic Conference this fall, with athleticism, size and speed around the edges.
Afterward, second-year head coach Jeremy Campbell voiced his approval for the progress his program had made during the spring practice window.
"I'm very pleased and impressed with the guys who came out," Campbell said. "They've put in some work — they've gotten stronger, bigger and faster — so I'm very pleased with our spring."
