Maxey Elementary Wildcat parents and students toured their new school campus on East Story Road.
Parents and students had the chance to step inside their new Maxey Elementary facility on Wednesday, Aug. 8.
Principal Carletta Davis-Wilson greeted everyone at the front door before they could take student-led tours of the school, sign up for PTA and other programs, meet their teachers and pick up backpacks, school supplies and uniform shirts.
St. Luke’s United Methodist Church provided backpacks and supplies for $4. The money will go into the principal’s fund.
The new school, at 602 E. Story Road, replaces the old facility, built in 1966, on East Maple Street. The campus is equipped with state-of-the-art music and art classrooms and will serve as a Visual and Performing Arts Magnet school in the future.
In addition to regular music classes, Maxey will offer a music academy, as well as chorus and ensemble, led by Orlando Collado.
Local artist Lisa Mikler plans to paint a hall mural depicting the history of Winter Garden, with an emphasis on the city’s east side. This will be the seventh Orange County Public Schools facility that she has added her artwork.
