Winter Springs 3, Olympia 2 - 11 innings
It took an extra four innings but a winner finally emerged between the Winter Springs Bears and Olympia Titans (11-7) at Sanford Memorial Stadium the afternoon of March 24. Francis Villaman scored a run on an errant throw by the Bears in the top of the sixth to knot the contest at 2-2, eventually forcing extra innings. Winter Springs loaded the bases in the bottom half of the 11th inning and won the game when a batter was hit by a pitch for the walk-off victory. Olympia's Jordan Morrow homered in the top of the first.
Olympia concludes play in the weeklong event today at 2 p.m. at Sanford Memorial Stadium against American Heritage.
Central Florida Spring Break Slam
Championship - Apopka 7, West Orange 6
The Central Florida Spring Break Slam was decided by a walk-off hit-by-pitch as the Warriors fell to rival Apopka in the bottom half of the seventh inning. The Blue Darters (14-4) were the home team for purposes of the tournament though the game was played at West Orange (16-2). Ethan Jones was strong at the plate in defeat, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored — including a home run. The two teams were playing for the third time this season after the Warriors took the first two meetings. A fourth meeting could take place in the district tournament.
Colonial 7, Dr. Phillips 3
A three-run home run by the Colonial Grenadiers ended the comeback hopes of the Dr. Phillips Panthers March 24, taking a one-run deficit and making it a four-run deficit that ultimately became the final score, 7-3. Tanner May had a solo home run for the Panthers (6-12). Dr. Phillips concluded the spring break event with a 1-3 record.
