Like most things in our body, our teeth, gum tissue, and overall bite will change with age. These changes usually are not noticeable over the course of months or even a few years, but at some point, you may notice that your teeth are more crowded or a gap has opened. This can be particularly maddening for someone who had orthodontic treatment earlier in life.

There are a number of factors that influence the position and stability of teeth, such as lip and tongue pressure, missing teeth and late jaw growth. Teeth themselves naturally change over decades of normal use, grinding habits and trauma.

Problems can arise as a result of teeth that have drifted to less favorable positions. For example, as the bite deepens or overlaps in the front, the force on the front teeth increases, accelerating tooth wear. Teeth that are crowding can lead to significant gum issues as it becomes harder to maintain good hygiene in tight areas.

Orthodontic treatment can often reverse these negative issues no matter your age. Today’s orthodontic treatments are faster and more efficient than ever! Clear aligners, like Invisalign, and ceramic braces have become attractive solutions to overturn the dental signs of aging. These options offer discreet ways for adults to invest in their oral health without the obvious look of braces. Many cases finish in less than 12 months, while the payoff can last a lifetime.
