The city of Orlando has received an application that may lead to the demolition of Building 310, the seven-story, brick, Navy barracks building at 4500 Lower Park Road. The applicant has specifically requested that the city designate the property "attached residential". The Baldwin Park Town Design Review Committee is scheduled to consider the proposed amendment on Sept. 22 at 2 p.m. in the agenda conference room on the second floor of city hall.

The Art & History Museums — Maitland (A & H) proudly presents the Florida Artist Group Exhibition, beginning on Sept. 23 and continuing until Nov. 6. The exhibition features numerous works, and is held in the Maitland Art Center Gallery, 231 W. Packwood Ave., Maitland and in the Germaine Marvel Building, located 210 W. Packwood Ave. (across the street from the Center). Gallery hours are Tuesday-Sunday, 11:00 a.m. – 4 p.m. Admission is 3 for adults; $2 for Seniors (55 & older) and for Children (4-18 years). A & H Members and Children (3 & under) are free. The public is invited to the Opening Reception, held on Friday, Sept. 23, from 6-8 p.m. in both galleries. The reception is free to A & H Members; the cost for Not-Yet-Members is $5.

The city will celebrate the completion of the new Winter Park Community Center, located at 721 W. New England Ave., with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, Sept. 23, at 10 a.m. The 38,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility will be open to the public for an interactive open house on Saturday, Oct. 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. As part of the city’s sustainability initiative, the center was specifically designed to be more energy efficient, conserve water and improve indoor air quality for visitors and guests, making it the city’s first “Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design” (LEED) certified green building.

A Just Between Friends back-to-school consignment event will be held Friday, Sept. 23 from 1:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 25 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Maitland Civic Center, 641 S. Maitland Ave.

On Friday, Sept. 23, the Goldenrod Chamber will host the first ever Vegas Style Casino night at the Goldenrod station from 6-9 p.m. Casino Party Planners of Florida will be setting up a Texas Hold E'm table, two black jack tables, a roulette table and three slot machines for all to play. Your business can be a table sponsor for $200, which includes tickets for four players, $20 in bar tickets, and your company’s name and logo on the tables. The Holocaust Memorial Resource and Education Center of Florida is proud to partner with the Global Peace Film Festival to bring two award-winning Holocaust documentaries to Central Florida in September.
