Congrats to grads

Winter Park resident Helena Berbano was recently awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Merrimack College.

Alexander M. St. Laurent of Winter Park received a Bachelor of Science degree from Washington and Lee University on Thursday, May 23. Commencement ceremonies for 422 Washington and Lee seniors were held on the university’s historic Front Lawn.

Local residents graduated from Clemson University May 10, including Marcella Mack Castelloes of Winter Park, who graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in accounting; Julianne White Johnson of Winter Park, who graduated with a Master of Science in historic preservation; Jesse Carl Smith V of Winter Park, who graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in financial management; and Thomas Michael Veith of Winter Park, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering.

Robert P. Frese Jr. of Winter Park was among the 548 students awarded a degree at St. Lawrence University’s commencement ceremony, held May 19 on campus in Canton, N.Y. Frese was awarded a degree in psychology and is a graduate of Trinity Prep School.

Natalie Jean Tucker of Winter Park received a Bachelor of Arts degree in finance from Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C.

Dean’s lister

Winter Park’s John Papa has been named to Worchester Polytechnic University’s dean’s list for the spring 2013 semester.

Movin’ on up

Karla Knight, academic administration coordinator at Rollins College, was recently presented with the Thaddeus Seymour Staff Award for Community Engagement on behalf of Rollins College. The award, which is presented annually, was established in 2006 as a means of recognizing Rollins staff members for sustainable and demonstrated service in local and global communities.

Super coach

Orangewood Christian School (OCS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Karen Braun as athletic director effective June 1, following a national search. Braun is a lifelong athlete and a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., where she played basketball and still retains the honor of third all-time highest rebounder.

Food drive campaign

During the month of June, all Goodwill retail stores and attended donation centers in Central Florida will participate in the “Fill the Need” food drive with Second Harvest Food Bank. Donations will support Second Harvest’s “Fighting Hunger, Feeding Hope” campaign, which helps feed children while school is out during the summer months. Residents are encouraged to drop off non-perishable food items, along with their Goodwill donations. For more information visit goodwillcfl.org
