OAKLAND

JULY 13

SMILE — YOU’RE ON CAMERA

17500 block of West Colonial Drive. Hit and run. A driver informed an officer of a pickup that had sideswiped him but did not stop, despite use of the horn to alert the suspect. The complainant had followed the suspect to Florida’s Turnpike but then lost track of that truck. Department officials procured video from the SunPass Authority at that toll entry and later subpoenaed information about the suspect via the SunPass account.

JULY 19

GREEN GETAWAY

200 block of West Sadler Avenue. Burglary. At about 5 a.m., Winter Garden police responded to the 1200 block of Thornbury Court, where a truck crashed straight into a tree but no occupants remained. The windshield bore cracks indicating the driver’s head had hit it from not wearing a seatbelt. The involved vehicle was registered to the Sadler Avenue address. Oakland police went there and found a broken window and unlocked door but no person. The owners of the car and home were on vacation. Unknown suspects had rummaged through the house, stealing a television, a table and keys. With the broken window and changed locks, total damages were about $1,125.

JULY 22

GRAND THEFT AUTOMATED CHAIR

100 block of South Tubb Street. Grand theft. A complainant reported his $4,000 power chair from his vehicle as stolen sometime between 8 p.m. July 21 and 10 a.m. July 22. An officer followed a lead when a similar item appeared on craigslist.org from a Clermont user the same day, but that chair did not match the stolen one.

JULY 29

QUICK CASH

17100 block of West Colonial Drive. Burglary. An officer met a furniture store manager at 7:05 a.m. about a break-in at a front window of the store. Unknown suspects had opened delivery trucks and strewn papers all over the store. Officers determined an umbrella stand weighing at least 40 pounds had gone through the window. They found one fingerprint and a shoe print. The alarm and cameras had not worked properly for the incident. About $1,100 in cash was missing, and a manager estimated window damage at $250 to $450.
