Former Dr. Phillips High School baseball player Oliver Marmol was named manager of the St. Louis Cardinals over the weekend.

He had previously been the bench coach for the Red Birds before taking over after former manager Mike Shildt was fired following the Cardinals’ loss in the Wild Card game against the Los Angeles Dodgers in early October.

With his hiring, Marmol becomes the youngest manager in baseball at only 35 years old.

Marmol attended DP from 2000-2004 and still holds the school record for most triples in a season. He was drafted by the Cardinals in the sixth round in 2007 after attending the College of Charleston.
