The wrestling program at Evans High is laying the foundation for what could be a breakout season for the program this winter.

First, the Trojans opened the season by finishing second behind Lake Highland Prep at the Brendan Buckley Invitational.

Senior George Schanck won at 195 lbs. and was named the "Most Outstanding Heavyweight Wrestler" for the event.

Evans went on to win the Ocoee Duals Dec. 9-10, going a combined 5-0. The Trojans defeated the host Knights, South Lake, Winter Park, Colonial and Oak Ridge.

The tournament victory is believed by the team's coaching staff to be the program's first since the 1980s.

Most recently, the Trojans defeated University Dec. 15, 57-25.

Standouts for Evans include Schanck, DeAndrew Walker, Ikzac Dixon, Earl Brown, and Cameron Ward. The team is coached by Matt Nelson, in his fourth season.
