Barrett M. Williams’ Letter “Stop burying the electric system” was like arguing against putting new tires on our old 1970 Ford Fairlane. Isn’t it time to ditch the Fairlane and go to modern technology? Do you realize we are, or should be, just around the corner of implementing a new energy producing system? Can you imagine having a unit under your workbench in the garage, which produces all the electricity your home needs? No more smoke stack or nuclear energy plants. No more high tension lines disgracing our landscape. No more “V-ing” of our street canopy and beautiful oak trees. The ideas are there. The incentive to build such units is gaining ground. Electric cars are, now, where gas-guzzling cars were in 1920. Yes, we have a long way to go; but the future is within sight. Where is the modern day Thomas Edison? Put a prize of $1 billion to the inventor of a new, compact, but safe, energy system and you will have it in service within two decades.
