Spring brings plenty of activities

Springtime always provides an array of events and activities in Maitland, and this year is no exception. In March, April and May there is something available for almost everyone in the family so please grab you calendar, make some notes and have a great springtime in Maitland.

ISA Tree Climbing Competition - New this year in Maitland is the International Society of Arboriculture 2013 Florida Chapter Tree Climbing Championship on March 9 at Lake Lily Park. The International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) is a professional organization dedicated to continuing education for arborists, tree care research, and to serving tree care consumers around the world. The Florida Chapter of the ISA shares this same dedication, with a further commitment to serving the needs particular to Florida’s professional arborists and tree care consumers. The Florida Chapter Competition on March 9 winners, both male and female, will represent the Florida Chapter later this year at the 2013 international competition in Toronto.

Movie in the Park – The continuing series of family Movies in the Park presented by the city of Maitland Leisure Services Department will feature “Ice Age 4 Continental Drift” at 8 p.m. in Quinn Strong Park located at 345 S. Maitland Ave. Join us as Scrat’s quest for the acorn leads to a massive climate event that sees Manny, Django and Sid stranded on a piece of ice floating in pirate infested waters. It’s sure to be fun for one and all, so grab a chair and join us for a great evening in the park.

Muscular Dystrophy Association Walk – This walking event will take place at Lake Lily Park on March 30 to raise funds for this important organization. For those who wish to learn more, volunteer to assist or participate, please contact [email protected]

Maitland Chamber of Commerce 25th annual Spring Art Festival – This nationally recognized art festival will present its 25th annual showing of renowned art works from around the country at Lake Lily Park April 12 through 14. For more information visit maitlandchamber.com

The city of Maitland Farmers Market – This weekly shopping and strolling opportunity to meet friends and neighbors is hosted each week on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the shores of beautiful Lake Lily Park. The Farmers Market will be closed on March 10 for the ISA event, March 31 in observance of the Easter holiday and on April 14 for the Spring Arts Festival.

The city of Maitland’s Food Truck Café – Each Wednesday, weather permitting, Lake Lily Park comes to life from 6 to 9 p.m. when the food trucks set up shop to offer scrumptious entrees and sweet treats. Live music from the Performing Arts of Maitland and a great evening in the park is always a welcome experience.

Friends of First Response Kickball Tournament - The Friends of First Response will host their annual Kickball Tournament at the Maitland Baseball Complex on May 19. Funds raised at this event will provide emergency and crisis funding to first responders and their families, and provide opportunities for the first responders to informally interact with area residents and get to know one another as neighbors.
