Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs and Fire Chief Otto Drozd III honored Jeremiah Grimes, 11, and Isiah Francis, 10, at the Aug. 4 Board of County Commissioners meeting. Isiah and Jeremiah received the Mayor’s Hero Award and an Honorary Firefighter plaque for calling 911 and rescuing two small children from a burning home June 16 in Oakland.

The boys also received a scholarship to attend the Central Florida Fire Academy when they turn 18.

“These children exhibited exceptional bravery, and their families should be very proud,” Drozd said. “They called 911 so our firefighters could immediately respond to the emergency. Furthermore, they rescued two children from the burning residence, saving their lives.”
