UPDATED 12:01 a.m. Saturday, June 23.
A 59-year-old woman is in critical condition after she was shot by her 41-year-old son inside a Summerport home Friday, June 22, Orange County Sheriff’s Office officials said.

According to Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Ingrid Tejada-Monforte, Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a verbal disturbance call at 8:50 p.m. Friday at the home at 14211 Bridgewater Crossings Blvd., in the Summerport community in Horizon West. The call was made by the victim.

Upon arrival, responding deputies heard three individuals arguing and saw the front door was open to the home. As they approached, they heard shots fired. At that time, the deputies called for backup. While securing the perimeter of the home, the deputies saw an individual trying to exit the residence from the back of the home.

Inside the home, deputies discovered the woman with multiple gunshot wounds. Deputies administered life-saving measures until Orange County Fire Rescue personnel arrived and transported the victim to Florida Hospital Winter Garden, Tejada-Monforte said.

The suspect is secure and being interviewed by detectives. The stepfather, the third person found at the home, also is being questioned.

"It's very sad (to have) another domestic that had to end up like this," Tejada-Monforte said. “Hopefully, the victim will be OK, but at this time, she is in very critical condition."
