Cat lovers, rejoice! The grand opening for the Orlando Cat Cafe in Clermont is nearly upon us.

Operated by Axum Coffee, the long-awaited cat cafe will be opening its doors to customers for the first time Thursday, Sept. 8 at noon. Located at 532 Cagan Park Ave., the cat cafe will offer feline-deprived patrons the opportunity to enjoy coffee and pastries in the Cat Play Zone starting at 10 a.m. Sept. 9.

As the West Orange Times & Observer reported in a story published February, all the cats in the cafe are rescues from the South Lake Animal League, which is a no-kill animal rescue shelter. All the adult cats can be adopted for $50 while kittens can be adopted for $100. The cafe will hold about 15 cats at a time, and all of them will be spayed and neutered, as well as microchipped.

Due to anticipated popularity, the cafe requests visitors who’d like to enter the Cat Play Zone of the cafe to book a reservation that costs $8 per hour at least 24 hours in advance. Visitation hours to the play area are from Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., because the Play area is closed on Mondays to allow the cats some rest from human interaction.

The cafe will also be hosting activities such as Coloring with Cats, Yoga with Cats and Reading with Cats on certain days each month. Private events can also be booked at the Cafe. For more information and booking, visit orlandocatcafe.com/book-a-time/.
