Orange County Fire Rescue battled a brush fire that burned through 20 acres of forest on Monday, May 8.

OCFR and the Florida Forest Service responded to a call received at 11:40 a.m. from a passerby informing they’d noticed three separate grass fires on the side of the road that led into the forest, said an Orange County spokeswoman.

The fire has now been extinguished, said the spokeswoman. The caller reported the fire as being located at State Road 429 between New Independence Parkway and Schofield Road. The brush fire caused Florida Highway Patrol to temporarily close down southbound lanes on the State Road 429 south of Windermere. The roads have since re-opened.

“It started out reported as approximately five acres,” the spokeswoman said. “…But there was no exposure so there wasn’t any property damage or life immediately threatened by the fire and no evacuations or such.”
