Windermere Preparatory School is celebrating International Literacy Day with a used book drive this week.

International Literacy Day, which occurred on Sept. 8, aims to "remind the public of the importance of literacy as a matter of dignity and human rights, and to advance the literacy agenda towards a more literate and sustainable society," according to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.

Currently, literacy challenges persist within at least 773 million young people and adults, according to the UNESCO.

WPS is doing their part by hosting a used book drive from Monday, Sept 13. through Friday, Sept. 24.

Books donated should have no missing pages or ripped covers and be free of excessive writing or notes. Books should also be appropriate for kindergarten through fifth grade students.

All books will be shared with underserved elementary schools in the local area.

Those who wish to donate can drop off any used books to the lower, middle, or high school offices, as well as the Cypress Center.
