Winter Park City Commissioners later today will discuss and vote upon a three-story, mixed-use project proposed for 158 E. New England Ave. The project, which would include retail, restaurant and office space, has been met with challenges and concerns due to the amount of parking required to make it feasible. Nearby merchants have stepped forward during previous public hearings to voice concerns of the project eating up surrounding parking, which could affect their business.

Commissioners will discuss potential parking variances and whether the project makes sense.

Joint Use Agreement with Orange County Public Schools

City Commissioners will also have the chance to approve an agreement with OCPS for the use of the Brookshire Elementary School grounds and potential use of the Lakemont Elementary

School grounds for passive recreational use during non-school hours.

The additional space for passive recreation will provide residents with additional space for non-organized or league-sanctioned sports and give an alternative playground location at a minimal cost.

As of June 27, the OCPS School Board approved the joint use agreement and is completing the signature process.
