Aug. 22 City Commission meeting highlights

Mayor’s Report

• Presentations were made for the 2016 Historic Preservation Awards and the Rollins College Women’s Golf National Championship.

• A proclamation was made declaring Friday, Aug. 26, as Brett C. Railey Day in honor of Chief Railey’s 35-plus years of service and retirement.

Consent Agenda

• The minutes for Aug. 8, 2016, were approved.

• The purchases, contracts and bid solicitations were approved (for a complete listing visit cityofwinterpark.org/ccpackets).

Action Items Requiring Discussion

• Three of the five new proposed historic preservation incentives were approved.

• The Commission did not take action on the proposed permitting process and policies for temporary signage on public property.

Public Hearings

• Request of Walter Ray for the property at 2281 Nairn Drive:

— The first reading of the ordinance amending official zoning map to change from Single Family Residential District zoning to Low Density Residential District was approved.

— The Conditional Use Approval under the cluster housing provisions of R-2 zoning to build a three-unit, cluster housing project of two-story townhouses was approved.

• Request of Ron Scarpa and Bob Walker:

— The subdivision or lot split approval to divide the property at 2098 E. End Ave., into two single-family building lots was approved.

• Request of the Interlachen North Partners, LLC:

— The Conditional Use Approval to redevelop the property at 503 N. Interlachen Ave., with an eight-unit, three-story residential project, was approved with an amendment.

• Request of New Hope Baptist Church:

— The Conditional Use Approval to use the portable buildings on church property for Sunday school classroom space and fellowship hall activities in conjunction with the church at 274 N. Capen Ave., was approved.

• The resolution approving and authorizing the execution of a Landscape Construction and Maintenance Memorandum of Agreement between FDOT and the city concerning landscaping improvements within a portion of the right of way of U.S. Highway 17-92 was approved.

• The resolution authorizing the required assurances included within this resolution in accordance with the requisite library construction grant requirements established by the Florida Department of State, Division of Library and Information Services, for the purpose of securing a public library construction grant was approved.

Spray ground closed

The Hannibal Square Spray Ground (located in Shady Park) is temporarily closed for repairs. We apologize for this inconvenience and are working toward a more permanent solution to keep the spray ground functional for future seasons. Here are a few alternative ways to cool down in the area:

Save the date – golf course grand reopening

The newly renovated Winter Park Golf Course will celebrate its Grand Reopening Ceremony the week of Oct. 1. City Hall closed

City Hall will be closed on Monday, Sept. 5, in observance of Labor Day. There will be no Waste Pro services on Labor Day as well. Household, yard and recycling services will resume on your next regularly scheduled pick up day.
