#OrlandoUnited, A Winter Park Tribute

Tuesday, July 12, marks the one-month date since the tragedy at Pulse nightclub. As our community continues to recover, the city of Winter Park will host #OrlandoUnited, A Winter Park Tribute on the one-month anniversary, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., in Central Park located in downtown Winter Park.

#OrlandoUnited, A Winter Park Tribute will feature:

• Live entertainment by Orlando Big Band

• Remarks by Winter Park Mayor Steve Leary; Florida State Sen. Geraldine F. Thompson, District 12; Florida House Rep. Mike Miller, District 47; Winter Park Police Chief Brett Railey, and other local dignitaries

• The lighting of 49 globes of light above the Emily Fountain in honor of the 49 lives lost

The response for blood donations has been overwhelmingly great, however, there is still an ongoing need for more. To assist in this drive, the OneBlood bus will be in downtown Winter Park on Morse Boulevard from 2 to 7 p.m. Walk-ins are welcomed, however, appointments are encouraged. To schedule an appointment with OneBlood please visit oneblooddonor.org and use sponsor code 35237. Donors will receive free admission passes to The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art, home to the world’s most comprehensive collection of works by Louis Comfort Tiffany.

Barnie’s CoffeeKitchen will be accepting donations to the OneOrlando Fund that was created by the city of Orlando, and is administered by the OneOrlando Board to directly support the victims’ families and survivors of the Pulse tragedy.

In addition, members of the Park Avenue Merchants Association will host a Shop & Share event to benefit the Better Together Fund at the Central Florida Foundation. This fund will support the non-profits that are supporting survivors and families, the LGBTQ, Hispanic and other affected communities, and future needs in the form of grants.

Orlando Big Band has graciously donated their time and talent for this tribute and has been representing the big band-era of the ’30s, ’40s and ’50s for the past four years. Orlando Big Band wows audiences with its dedication to the classic charts and sounds that pulled America through some of the toughest years on record. This time in America is no exception.

Special thanks to Barnie’s CoffeeKitchen for lighting the way for this event and to our print partners Triangle Reprographics Inc. and American Graphix Solutions.

CoffeeTalk with Vice Mayor Sprinkel

CoffeeTalk featuring Vice Mayor Sarah Sprinkel will be held Thursday, July 14, at 8 a.m., at the Winter Park Welcome Center located at 151 W. Lyman Ave. Now in its 11th season, CoffeeTalk has become the place for citizens that have “a latte beans to grind” or simply want to “espresso their thoughts.” The purpose of CoffeeTalk is to give citizens the opportunity to talk to their city leaders in a more casual, informal environment, and avoid the stage fright that is often experienced at large meetings. Please make plans to join Vice Mayor Sprinkel for a cup of conversation and great coffee provided by Barnie’s CoffeeKitchen.
