PARKS & RECREATION DUBBED "SMALL BUT MIGHTY" AFTER SUCCESSFUL VISIT BY ACCREDITATION TEAM

Just last week, the city's Parks & Recreation Department staff completed a three-day evaluation by the National Recreation & Park Association's Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) team. CAPRA recognizes park and recreation agencies for excellence in operation and service. Accreditation assures policy makers, city staff, the public and tax payers that the city's parks and recreation department has been independently evaluated against established benchmarks as delivering a high level of quality programs and services. This on-site visit completes the second phase of the three-phase accreditation process that includes:

Development of the agency self-assessment report

Visitation/on-site evaluation

Commission's review and decision

In an e-mail from the CAPRA Team Chair, Bert Neal, states, "…I must say the entire team was very impressed with your city and everyone we came into contact with. Ya'll may be the best kept secret in Florida!!!"

He continues to say, "The [accreditation] process makes departments be "the best they can be" and I feel certain you and the citizens of Winter Park wouldn't want anything less!! Our entire team was very impressed with the dedication and work ethics shown by the employees of the Recreation Department."

Final results of the accreditation process will be given after a hearing of the CAPRA Board of Directors in October during the National Recreation and Park Association Congress.

"There are only 90 accredited park and recreation agencies in the country. If accredited, our agency would join that elite list and be of one of only 16 agencies in Florida with the designation. That would truly be something to be proud of. We look forward to the hearing in October," said John Holland, Parks & Recreation Director.
