June 8 “Cake at the Break” at 5 p.m.

Please make plans to join the City Commission and staff at “Cake at the Break” to be held at 5 p.m. in the Chapman Room located just outside City Commission Chambers at City Hall. June 1 marked the 10th anniversary of the acquisition when the city officially “flipped the switch” to ownership of its electric utility. Since then the city has experienced a number of electrifying successes including:

• Lower electric rates as compared to the previous and many other municipally-owned utilities

• Decreased costs for operation and maintenance (O&M)

• Improved reliability, customer service and aesthetics

• Increased property values

• Approximately 60 percent of overhead lines are currently underground

Mark your calendars and stop by City Hall to help us celebrate this monumental day.

A decade of espresso-ing your thoughts

This year marks the 10th anniversary of CoffeeTalk and it still rings true as the place for citizens that have “a latte beans to grind” or who simply want to “espresso their thoughts.” Since inception in 2005, the purpose of CoffeeTalk is to give citizens the opportunity to talk to their city leaders in a more casual, informal environment and avoid the “stage fright” that is often experienced at large meetings. In honor of the 10th anniversary, CoffeeTalk has been extended and now offers our community the opportunity to talk with elected officials and city department heads about their specific areas of expertise.

Below is the upcoming 2015 CoffeeTalk season schedule until the end of the year. Log on to cityofwinterpark.org for the complete schedule:

• June 12 – Mayor Steve Leary in partnership with Winter Park Chamber of Commerce’s Good Morning Winter Park program

• July 9 – Commissioner Greg Seidel

• Aug. 13 – Commissioner Sarah Sprinkel

• Sept. 30 – Commissioner Carolyn Cooper

• Oct. 8 – Commissioner Tom McMacken

• Nov. 12 – City Manager Randy Knight

• Dec. 10 – Fire Chief Jim White

All CoffeeTalks are at 8 a.m. at the Winter Park Welcome Center located at 151 W. Lyman Ave.

Mark your calendars for a cup of conversation and great coffee provided by Barnie’s Coffee Kitchen.
